We occasionally receive reports from customers who are receiving unsolicited (spam) mail that is apparently coming from their own e-mail address. This can cause concerns as the first assumption is often that your e-mail account has been compromised. This is almost certainly not the case however.
Spammers are very determined to ensure that you receive the e-mails that they are sending you as they wish for you to purchase their products and so employ various methods to try and ensure delivery to your mailbox. One method is to forge the senders e-mail address and use that of your own account to send mail to you in a hope that this will help get them past any spam filtering systems. This does not mean that your mailbox has been compromised as anyone can actually send an e-mail that appears to be from your own e-mail address due to the way that e-mail works, however your username and password are required in order to actually read your e-mail and so that is completely secure.
These messsages are generally harmless, however if this continues to cause an issue then we do offer a spam filtering service that can be added to accounts which will normally remove the majority of such nuisance messages from your inbox.
